Watch: Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks on Jimmy Fallon

Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, who's newest release Mirror Traffic is in stores now, played two songs on Jimmy Fallon last night. The first was the on air performance of "Senator," the third track and most controversial of the album. The song features this lyric: "I know what the Senator wants, what the Senator wants is a blowjob." Recently, the band announced the winner of it's contest to replace the word, "blowjob" with "corndog" for the radio edit. However, last night Stephen used "snow-job" and then split a grin when he forced NBC to bleep out another one of his lines. Enjoy "Senator" and the new and web exclusive track entitled "Surreal Teenagers" below.

Tours: The Vaccines Cancel Fall Tour Dates with Young Buffalo and Tennis

The following was statement was issued on the Vaccines' official site today:

"Sorry to keep so many of you in the dark regarding our touring plans over the next few weeks, but we wanted to be sure of them before we spoke to you. Unfortunately, the Doctor has now confirmed that, this week, he will be operating on my throat for a third time this year. It was the wait for this decision, and no other reason, that meant we were able to complete commitments over this last week and why we will not be able to complete those in the coming weeks.

In a bid to allow my throat to recover and rehabilitate completely, we will be cancelling all shows, including our trips to North America in September and Japan and Europe in October. We will resume with our touring commitments in Paris on October 26th before supporting our friends the Arctic Monkeys here in the UK. This allows me to have eight weeks of the best vocal therapy available, allowing the best possible chance of complete recovery."

In addition, he went on to say that, "cancelling shows in exchange for repeated hospital visits plain fucking sucks." From that we can deduce that this isn't a Kings of Leon bullshit excuse cancellation. These guys really want to play.

The following dates were rescheduled to the one's below:

Sun 11 Dec Hamburg Knust
Mon 12 Dec Koln Luxor
Wed 14 Dec Amsterdam Paradiso
Thu 15 Dec Copenhagen Vega
Fri 16 Dec Stockholm Debaser Medis
Sun 18 Dec Berlin Postbahnhof
Mon 19 Dec Brussels AB Main Hall

Wavves - "I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl"

Wavves, who will release their Life Sux EP September 20th, have released a new track in a pretty strange way. "I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl," was released last night via the new MTV show "I Just Want My Pants Back." The band is guest composing the first season of the show and you can download the new track and the entire track-list from last night's premier through the link below.

13 Better New Artists Than Tyler, the Creator

(WARNING: This is going to get very hipster/biased)

So some guy named "Tyler, the Creator" won Best New Artist at the VMA's last night. Now I know the VMA's are very, very, corporate. But here are some Indie Bands who should/could have claimed the award.

1) Foster the People

FtP were even listed on the nominations bill. Not a shocker since they have blown up in the last three months. Since releasing their EP in January, "Pumped Up Kicks" has blown up. In addition, their debut LP Torches (released back in May) is top to bottom a great bridge between the indie/pop markets. Below we've posted them performing the closer of their album, and our personal favorite, "Broken Jaw," live at SXSW.

2) The Naked and Famous

TNAF are a indie-pop group from a small town in New Zealand. Their debut record Passive Me, Aggressive you is chalk full of dance-type jams including their hit "Young Blood." Their LP topped the BBC Radio charts in New Zealand and Australia forcing them to embark on a world tour. Check out "Young Blood" below.

3) Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.

Don't be scared away by the name. These guys have a very "bubble-gum indie" feel to them as well. In fact, one of the members of the band is even in the freecreditreport.com commercial (see below). Their album It's a Corporate World (which is even more hipster than their band name) is one of those records that makes you feel good beginning to end. They even have an associated band called Victorious Secret. Below we've posted the SoundCloud embed from their website.

It's A Corporate World by Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.

4) Grouplove

This band's self-titled debut EP shocked people when they first heard it and after gaining steam from a spectacular Lollapalooza show, they are set to blow up upon the release of their first LP on September 13th called Never Trust a Happy Song. Might be a bit early for these guys, but if they do blow up, expect them there next year. Below is their performance of "Colours" at Lolla.

5) WALK THE MOON

This band can best be described as "MGMT-lite." On their first LP i want! i want! from last November, they mix the guitar and synthesizer moods of MGMT perfectly. In doing so, they aren't poppy and 17 year old girl music, like Oracular Spectacular. Instead, they attract a much wider indie-pop audience. Even better, they give away free face paint at their live shows. Check out the music video for "Anna Sun" below.

6) Yuck

Another band from foreign shores, Yuck, and their self-titled debut, hail from England. Praised by similar artists around the country via Twitter, the band began to gain steam and recently announced a Fall Tour. Check out their opening song, "Get Away," below.

 \

7) The Vaccines

Nothing more hipster than a debut album entitled What Did You Expect from the Vaccines? right? This London based band released their LP in March and garnished enough appeal to land them an opening day spot at Lollapalooza. Check out their slow building song "If You Wanna" at Lollapalooza below.

8) Fitz and the Tantrums

A neo-soul group who's debut LP Pickin' Up the Pieces came out August of last year. Named after their lead-singer/headman Michael Fitzpatrick, they are well-known for their hit single "Moneygrabber."Their live performances are very catered to the crowd's own enjoyment (see "Moneygrabber" live at Lollapalooza below) and they have performed on multiple late night T.V. shows.

9) The Joy Formidable

This three-piece band of childhood friends from England has been around since 2007 but released their first LP The Big Roar on January 24th. They were introduced to America last year when they opened two sold out shows for Passion Pit at New York City's Terminal 5. They recently played Lollapalooza this year. Their hit, "Whirring," has a pop-feel but then surprises you when it jams at the end. Check it out below at Lollapalooza.

10) Best Coast

So they released their debut EP in '09, but their LP was released in July of last year so wouldn't even qualify for the award last year. Although their album is a little whiny and boy crazy, it still has some good tunes on it to carry you through the summer. Below is their most depressing/whiny/surf rock boy crazy song "Boyfriend."

11) Washed Out

Take a look at the album artwork for this band's debut LP Within and Without from July and you just know it's good. Check out the first song, "Eyes Be Closed" below.

12) Cults

Another "bubble-gum indie" pick here. The self-titled LP and the two catchy songs "Go Outside" and "Bumper" land this indie-pop duo on the list. Below is their quick and fun hit "Bumper."

13) Young the Giant

Formed in 2004, Young the Giant never really took off until they toured with Minus the Bear in 2010. Once they released their self-titled debut in January, they gained attention and then played a set at Lollapalooza earlier this month. Check out their song, "My Body," below.

Tokyo Police Club Covering 10 Years of Music, through 10 Songs, in 10 Days

Ontario's Tokyo Police Club has decided to ambitiously cover the last 10 years in music... By releasing 10 covers... In 10 days. So far they've covered The Strokes, Kelly Clarkson, and Moby. It seems as if, judging from the Facebook page, they will also be covering Queens of the Stone Age, Phoenix, Sting, and Lady Gaga. Below we've posted their "Mysterious Video" regarding the event, the Soundcloud embedding where you can listen to the covers, and the Facebook and Polaroid pages for the event.

LCD Catsystem - "Lick Yrself Clean"

The overall ridiculous jam that is "Dance Yrself Clean" by LCD Soundsystem has been remixed by the newly formed LCD Catsystem. Although a little annoying, the song is funny, and somewhat catchy. I just have no idea what this means for the "band" LCD Catsystem. Below is the band's bio from their Bandcamp and the link to their Bandcamp where you can download the song... We've also included the video for the original tune. (via Brooklyn Vegan)

"There is a house, a New York brownstone townhouse, where the spectre of feline inferiority and owner eccentricity is merely an anxiety of the past. The archetypical idiosyncratic pet possessor with her multitudinous strays has given way to a different sort of grimalkin appreciation. A new breed of felinophiles was born. From the rugged streets of Western Brooklyn to Manhattan's Lower East Side to Los Angeles' Echo Park, a nouvelle vague of cat owners reclaimed the lofty standing of this noble beast. Not since the deified cats of Ancient Egypt have cats been treated with such respect. This new generation learned from their owners the ways of the world as they experienced it. They saw the same films, they read the same books, and certainly listened to the same music. Some of these animals became even more nuanced and subtle arbiters of taste than their owners, perhaps owing to markedly superior sensory perception to humans. This is the spring from which LCD Catsystem flows, a wealth of inspiration and genius where one would not be sticking her neck out by predicting the next great movement in art. LCD Catsystem is the ultimate collection of the genius of the current cat scene. Yes, there are quite a few musical artists in the current feline scene making quite a bit of noise, but none has destinguished themselves to such a degree as LCD Catsystem.
